Application of Collagen Membranes -
Dressings always must be done under professional
supervision or sanitary authorized personnel.
1)
To apply the Collagen Membranes there is no need for local
anaesthesia or preparation from affected area. It can be used
with any type of tissue loss, whether chronic, infected or
poorly vascularised.
2)
It acts as a natural transplant and is used by the body's
fibrous tissue, stimulating granulation and healing without
producing immunological or foreign body reactions.
3)
Before placing the Collagen Membrane, clean the wound with water
and soap or physiological solution. Iodated products must be
avoided because they can produce necrosis areas on the wound
edges.
4)
Cut the membrane to the wound size. If wanted, moist it
in physiological solution to shape. If infection exists the
membrane can be moisted with any antibiotic or antiseptic. In
such case, ensure about the tolerance of the patient to this
medicaments.
5)
Apply the Collagen Membrane only on the tissue to be
repaired or protected and always avoid to remain pressed or
tensed.
6)
After being placed, shaped and pillowed inside the wound,
it must be covered. It's very important to avoid implant
mobility. In some cases it can be applied a rod, bandage,etc..
to immobilize the area.
7)
In surgically created cavities, Collagen Dressings can be
used to completely fill all of the volume loss. To avoid
membrane displacement some stitches can be applied on the
cavitity lips to fix it.
8)
To cover bloody areas, doubtful sutures, stumps, hernial
repairs, etc... simply suture in place a thin collagen membrane.
9)
Once placed, check the Collagen Membrane every 24 to 48
hours, adding more dressings if it is necessary without taking
off the collagen that has been placed previously.
10)
The total resorption period depends on many factors such as the
patient, clinical situation and location.
11)
In surgical interventions, high percentages of total healing are
obtained, avoiding secondary surgeries. |
